About Brother Machine Tools

Brother Machine Tools was originally started as a sewing machine company by Kanekichi Yasui in 1908, Nagoya, Japan. As his sons took over the family business they changed the name to Yasui Brothers Sewing Machine Company creating some of the best sewing machines that are still run and manufactured today. In 1932 their model Type 50 Model 70 became a commercial success worldwide. During the 1950’s Brother started to expand their productions including: electric washing machines, computer keyboards, calculators, home knitting machines, electric typewriters, dot matrix printers, fans, computerized monogramming machines and small lathes. It was at this time of heightened distribution of product that the name changed to Brother International Corporation. In 1979 Brother revolutionized the sewing machine market by introducing the Computer-Sew 1000, the world's first computerized sewing machine. It wasn't until 1934 that the company split opening a new company dedicated to the machine tool industry, the company's name was Brother Industries. They dedicated their time and resources developing and manufacturing vertical machining centers. Today Brother Industries has a big footprint covering the United States, Mexico, Germany, Thailand, India and China. Brother uses the slogan of “At Your Side” demonstrating its core values to its customers in the metal working industry. For over 110 plus years Brother has been a leader in the sewing and CNC machine tool Industries.
