Citizen was formed in 1918 and at first became known as a watch manufacturer. In order to produce the tiny parts needed for watch making they needed machinery that can create the sophisticated parts of a watch. It wasn't until 1936 that the company started to make machine tools, and in 1948 introduced their AL-S25 an automated cam lathe. Finally in 1982 Citizen broke off to form CITIZEN PRECISION MACHINERY CO, a company dedicated to producing CNC machine tools. At this time in Japan they successfully produced its Cincom machine tool line becoming one of the most widely accepted swiss type CNC turning centers in the world. Today Citizen manufactures sliding headstock type CNC automatic lathes, fixed headstock CNC automatic lathes and multiple station machining cells. With the development of a sliding headstock technology, combined with a guide bushing Citizen Cincom Swiss lathes are able to eliminate the vibrations and provide the most precise machining within the industry. With this technology a machinist can create work pieces with a 3:1 length to diameter ratio, as well as complex parts running multiple operations. Citizen manufactures a wide line of machinery covering bar capacity ranging from 1mm to 38mm in diameter. Because of the way the swiss lathe operates it can be used in a variety of different products, including medical instruments, aerospace, defense, valves, fasteners, electronics, fiber optics, automobiles, business machines, firearms, tools, and many others. Citizen swiss type turning lathes are respected as an industry leader of manufacturers around the world.
