About Emco Machine Tools

Emco was founded in Austria around 1947 first manufacturing and producing conventional lathes. Its founder Karl Maier incorporated the company in Salzburg, Austria. In the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s Emco was known for manufacturing universal woodworking machines, precision mills and lathes along with hardness testers. It wasn't until the 1970 when Emco decided to focus their resources on building CNC machine tools. They built their machines primarily to focus on education and training supporting universities and training centers across the globe. Each of their machines and components are all produced, manufactured and built in Europe. In 1973 Guenther Kuhn bought Emco and relabeled the company the EMCO Maier Group. Now part of Kuhn Holding GmbH Emco has manufacturing plants in Austria, Germany and Italy with 6 production sites and 52 branches employing around 800 employees. Over time Emco developed the EMCOTURN 332 and the EMCOTURN 465, the first machine tools equipped with two tool systems and two rotating spindles. In 2004, and then again 2011 Emco took over operations of the FAMUP and MECOF companies. Today, EMCO stands for top-of-the-line, customized, automated complete solutions for both turning and milling.
