In 1914 Hermann Hahn established Index in the manufacturing hub of Germany. It wasn't until 1979 that INDEX focused its attention to researching and developing multi-spindle turning lathes. As business developed Index merged with TRAUB-Drehmaschinen GmbH & Co in 1997 adding support to their sliding headstock automatic lathe line of products. Now as a global company INDEX Group manufactures their machines worldwide with plants in Germany (Esslingen, Deizisau, Reichenbach), France, Sweden, USA, Brazil, China and Slovakia. On the death of Eugen Hahn (the owners son) the majority of the company was transferred to a non-profit organization, the "Eugen and Irmgard Hahn Foundation" where they help support global diseases, mechanical training and elder care. You can see INDEX-TRAUB machines in many different sectors, primarily in the automotive industry but also electrical engineering and electronics sectors, fluid technology and mechanical engineering.
