Maschinenfabrik Mikron AG was incorporated in 1908, based in Switzerland starting as a watch making company. In 1912 they developed and manufactured their first gear hobbing machine. In the 1960 Mikron diversified into other areas of metal working by creating milling machines, plastic components, and machining systems. In 1997 they introduced their first automation robotic assembly cell calling it Syfast. During the 2000’s they focused their attention on the research and development of high-speed milling machines and machining centers. Currently they manufacture high precision CNC machining centers along with precise, productive and adaptable automation solutions. Mikron is the world’s leading supplier of high-speed machining centers innovating the design with high-speed spindles, high feed rates, and superb acceleration providing extreme accuracies, and surface finish. Their machines are ten times faster than conventional milling offering spindle RPM’s of 12,000 up to 60,000 while still holding tolerances to tenths. They are built with a polymer granite base keeping vibration on the machine to a minimum and lower thermal conductivity. As a global leader in manufacturing Mikron produces machines in Switzerland, Germany, Singapore, China and the USA employing over 1,400 individuals.
