About Toshiba Shibaura Machine Tools

Founded in 1938 as Shibaura Machine Tool Company, this japanese based manufacturer started by developing large-scale machine tools for their defense industry. From there they went on to other industrial areas including nail production machinery, printing presses, refrigeration, textiles and cigarette rolling machinery. During the 1950’s they started moving back into the machine tool industry by producing gear hobbing machine tools along with plastic injection molding machines. Years later, in 1961, Shibaura Machine merged with a corporate subsidiary to establish Toshiba Machine dedicated to making hydraulic components for heavy construction machinery. They continued with their development of large scale equipment related to the metal working industry. Today, Toshiba Shibaura develops and manufactures a wide variety of product lines consisting mainly of horizontal boring machines, boring mills turning lathes, bridge mills, and horizontal machining centers. The Molding Machinery division manufactures injection molding machines, plastic extrusions, and die casting machines Their speciality is building a machine with rigidity of the column and bed and also the rigidity of the guide and feed systems. As the company grew they explored other avenues as well including the manufacturing of: elevators and escalators, personal computers, printers, batteries, electronic components, home appliances, medical equipment, semiconductors, hard disk drives (HDD), and lighting. In Early 2000, Toshibia decided to rebrand and change their name back to the original Shibaura Machine Tool Company. Toshiba - Shibaura is a respected traditional brand name in Japan and a global manufacturer of multiple products.
